Nope. I can't explain it. :)
Howev...Hi Kevin,

Nope. I can't explain it. :)

However, according to the glossary in the Kitab-i-Aqdas, they define 19 mithqals of gold as either "69.192 grammes" or "2.22456 troy ounces". I think I just forgot to clarify that I was referring to troy ounces when I said "almost 2.25 ounces". Sorry for the confusion.

(And what's worse is that I'm a jeweler and fashion designer by trade. You would think I would know better.)

Thanks for pointing that out. I've added in the word "troy" into that sentence.

MeadMeadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02046847133963919765noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1734645058271734681.post-67753476634643057662020-08-06T14:51:38.700-07:002020-08-06T14:51:38.700-07:00Hi Mead,

According to Google 1 Troy ounce = 1.09714 ounces. So if 19 Mithqals = 2.22456 Troy Oz, wouldn't 19 Mithqals = 2.440654 (regular) Oz? If I understand your first paragraph, you think 19 Mithqals=2.25 (regular) oz. Can you explain your calculation?Kevinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05638938208946997103noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1734645058271734681.post-10456639862600263472020-02-22T02:47:41.653-08:002020-02-22T02:47:41.653-08:00It varies so much, but as of today, $1643. is appr...It varies so much, but as of today, $1643. is approximate. Here is the quote.

"No marriage may be contracted without payment
of a dowry, which hath been fixed for city-dwellers at nineteen mithqals of pure gold, and for village-dwellers at the same amount in silver. Whoso wisheth to increase this sum, it is forbidden him to exceed the limit of ninety-five mithqals."

The Kitab-i-Aqdas, p. 42

So we are both correct. It is at least 19, and 95 is the upper limit.

Thanks again.

MeadMeadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02046847133963919765noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1734645058271734681.post-65915033223051666832012-02-14T11:30:19.856-08:002012-02-14T11:30:19.856-08:00The Dowry is 95 mithqals. The Dowry is 95 mithqals.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1734645058271734681.post-81780957439912838742012-01-22T15:07:46.672-08:002012-01-22T15:07:46.672-08:00You can always check it here http://www.goldprice....You can always check it here http://www.goldprice.org/Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1734645058271734681.post-21622347739844536542010-11-24T13:06:12.947-08:002010-11-24T13:06:12.947-08:00She pays, but "after having deducted therefro...She pays, but "after having deducted therefrom the yearly expenses"... her expenses... so...Adrian Culicencuhttp://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1635005757noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1734645058271734681.post-2016773646654453652010-10-04T11:07:18.016-07:002010-10-04T11:07:18.016-07:00Cool.
